Privacy policy

The short version: the budgets you build stay in your browser. We don't have accounts, we don't set cookies, and we don't sell or share personal information.

Who is responsible

Pencil Budget (pencilbudget.com) is operated by Kling Invest & Consulting AB, Sweden. Contact: hello@pencilbudget.com.

Your budget data

Everything you type into a calculator – names, pay, costs – is stored only in your browser's localStorage on your device. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. We can't see it, and we can't recover it for you if it's deleted.

Each calculator uses one key for your own data:

• pencilbudget_household_v1 – household budget
• pencilbudget_split_v1 – split bills & rent
• pencilbudget_trip_v1 – trip budget
• pencilbudget_project_v1 – home project budget

Each key can also have a copy ending in _own: a temporary backup of your own data while you look at something someone shared with you, so you can go back to yours.

You can delete them with the Clear button in each calculator, or by clearing site data for pencilbudget.com in your browser.

Share links. When you use “Share link”, the whole budget is written into the link itself (after the #). That part of a link is not sent to our server when it's opened, but anyone you give the link to can read what's in it. Only share it with people you'd show the budget to.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Render Services, Inc. (USA). Like any web server, it receives your IP address and basic request information (page requested, browser type, time) in order to deliver the page, and may keep these in short-lived server logs for security and operations.

Visitor statistics

We count visits with Plausible Analytics, provided by Plausible Insights OÜ (Estonia, EU servers). Plausible sets no cookies and stores no personal data. It records which pages are viewed, the referring site, browser, device type and country, plus the names of buttons clicked (for example “Excel” or “Share link”) – never what you type into a field. Your IP address is used only to compute a daily rotating identifier that cannot be traced back to you, and is not stored.

Cookies

Pencil Budget sets no cookies today. If that changes – for example when ads are added – this policy will be updated first and you will be asked for consent where the law requires it.

Ads and affiliate links

There are no ads or affiliate links on the site today. When they are added, this policy will describe which partners are involved and what they collect.

Email

If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply, and delete them when they are no longer needed.

Your rights

Because your budget data never reaches us, there is nothing about it for us to access, correct or delete – it is under your control on your device. For anything else, including rights under the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act, email hello@pencilbudget.com. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
